Meet the Arborist

Brian Barbre grew up spending his spare time in the woods and mountains of West Virginia and Virginia. Raised in the Shenandoah Valley, he enjoyed hiking, camping and fishing in the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains.

He has also explored and studied the forests of New England, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Ethiopia during his masters degree studies. There he earned his MS in Forestry and Ecological Management through the Peace Corps Masters International program. Through studies of tree biology, soil science, wildlife habitat, entomology, silviculture, and the intersection of the natural and human environment, Mr. Barbre has an ecological systems approach to arboriculture.

"I like to treat each property as it's own ecological system. You need to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together to know what the trees are telling you."

"The surroundings and history of the landscape can tell you more than the trees alone...whats going on below ground and out of site may be more important than what you can see."

His undergraduate degree in historic preservation gives him a unique insight into historic gardens and landscapes to help preserve both cultural and natural resources together.

During his time working for a tree service provider he implemented integrated pest management and soil care programs as well as tree climbing for pruning and removals. He eventually stepped up into a sales role for the company before striking out on his own to pursue his consulting career.
